2018 neIDEAS CHALLENGE WINNER |
My name is Niema Stone. I own a small business called Soapstone Soaps, LLC located in Detroit, Michigan. I first started out making natural handmade soaps and eventually increased my product line to include body butter. My goal is to retire from teaching children and open up a shop where I can make, sell and teach other people how to make healthy skin-loving products for the body.
One of the reasons I started making natural products for the body is my husband has eczema. In 2009, I began to research the process of how to make soap. In 2010, I started making cold process soap. For another year, I passed out samples to family & friends. I took in their input and perfected my recipe. Here I am today. I make a variety of handmade soaps, body butters, deodorants, body oils and now lip balm. I think, eat and sleep soap. This is my passion. This is what I do! |
Hi, I’m Niema Stone — founder of Soapstone Soaps, LLC, a certified minority- and woman-owned small business based in Detroit, Michigan.
Soapstone Soaps began as a labor of love. In 2009, I started researching natural skincare solutions to help my husband manage his eczema. That journey led me to the world of cold process soapmaking, and by 2010, I was crafting handmade soaps in my kitchen. I shared my early creations with family and friends, listened to their feedback, and refined my recipes. Over time, what started as a personal project grew into a thriving business.
Today, Soapstone Soaps offers a full line of skin-loving products, including over twenty varieties of artisan soaps, rich body butters, nourishing body oils, and gentle, baking soda-free deodorants. Every item is handcrafted with care, using ingredients that are kind to your skin and the environment.
As a full-time educator and passionate entrepreneur, my dream is to one day retire from teaching and open a cozy storefront where I can create, sell, and teach others about the benefits of natural skincare. I believe that what we put on our bodies matters — and I’m committed to helping people feel confident and cared for through high-quality, handmade products.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Soapstone Soaps is more than a business — it’s my passion, my purpose, and my way of sharing wellness with the world.
